Chapter 10
âIt doesnât matter what he feels like now, Mercedes. Men are like children. They want attention, they want to be worshipped, they want to feel like they are the only one.â
âBut he was, mama,â Mercedes whined, still not being truthful about Petey.
Paris rolled her eyes and took a sip of wine. While most of the east coast was cold, she was still pretty around her pool sunbathing. She wouldnât trade sunny south for anything. Sure, she enjoyed skiing in Aspen or being on the mountains at a resort during wintertime, but Miami was it for her. Traveling and not footing the bill was one of the many benefits being with Big Wayne, even with Mercedes being grown now.
âIf he was, then what changed, Mercedes?â she asked, thinking about her old crush Chico. She couldnât stand that damn Myriah, surprised he had actually gotten himself together.
He was a whole hoe, who barely looked her way after she had a few moments with him here and there when he was first coming up in the game. So, when she found out Myriah knocked down a boss of his caliber, she hated her even more. And now that her daughter couldnât snag his son, she was disgusted. âJust couldnât close the deal?â
âIt wasnât a business proposition, mother,â Mercedes huffed, donning her shades on her face to hid the mist in her eyes. âWe were in a relationship.â
All her life, sheâd been poked and picked on by her mother. If it wasnât about her weight or skin complexion, it was about the guys she chose to date. Many she didnât find interesting, but if they had money or were attached to money, Mercedes was programmed to pursue them.
The madness started at twelve when she enrolled her in a gym with a personal trainer to lose weight. Then she had to train and develop muscle including enough to fill up her C cup bra size. From there it was skin peels after joining the cheerleading squad, the sun tanning her skin too dark for Parisâs liking.
Big Wayne was as dark as they come, but his money was right and he was sexy as fuck. She prayed his complexion didnât become her daughterâs and it didnât, but she still stayed on her.
âSo you so,â she mumbled, shaking her head at her daughter. She wanted to push her ass in the pool, but that would mean sheâd get wet too. So she refrained.
âMom, Iâm not like you,â she said softly, hating the front sheâd been putting on all these years.
âWhat the hell is that supposed to mean, little girl?â she snarled, sitting up quickly. âYou are like me. What, you think I put in all this work for you to be less than me? Fuck no. I told you from before he wasnât shit, but noooo, you just had to prove me wrong.
Now, look at you sitting over there with your puppy dog eyes, married to that cell and social media. He doesnât give a fuck about you.
